Srinivasa Kalyanam Telugu Movie Review 2018: Nithiin, Raashi Khanna | Vegesna Sathish, Dil Raju

Srinivasa Kalyanam New Telugu Movie Review 2018: Nithiin, Raashi Khanna | Vegesna Sathish, Dil Raju.

To summarize in one sentence:

A class “peeking” flick with a couple of Senior(actor Venkatesh & others) doling out advice on married life, how to, what is of a marriage and life after marriage. We have the hero ( Vasu – Nithiin), the most ideal ever smiling, ever helpful, always do good, always ready to sacrifice, always ready to do all it takes to make others happy. And we have multiple other characters who bring different facets to the fore to which advises are doled out by the couple of Seniors and of course the hero.

While the intention is good, extolling virtues of being in a sanctified married life, sticking together through ups and downs, trusting each other, explaining the rituals that one performs through when the mantras are chanted and when the purohit asks for certain actions to be followed and when the bride and groom dutifully and mechanically without knowing the meaning of what they are actually doing follow them, I felt that the subject could have been dealt much better. Way too much time was spent on what I am about to narrate below.

Remember, the good old Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana?? Here is a sequence that stuck to my memory.

So the motley group of Rama, Lakshmana, a couple of sages, Hanuman and a couple of his friends travel through a forest and come upon a river. And the sage addresses Rama “Raam, Yeh Ganga Hai…Tum Iska Poojan Karo”. The camera focus on Rama. Ever so gently, and ever so slowly, he puts his quiver down and then his bow, wades into the water while the sage utters a few mantras. The camera focuses the on the first sage, a smile, and then on Lakshmana whose expression is that of Good job brother, and then on Hanuman, who nods his head approvingly and then on Hanuman’s first friend who puts on a deep expression of reverence and then on the other friend who nods and then back to Rama for the balance of the Pooja. Whew, good 8 minutes later, Rama finishes his Pooja. The sage now beckons Lakshmana. “Lakshman..Tum bhi iska poojan karo”. And Lakshmana ever so gently places his quiver down and then his bow and wades into the river. Again, camera focus on Rama who acknowledges with an approving smile and then first sage and then Hanuman and then…..And another 8 minutes are spent.

‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’ puts us through such an ordeal. A question asked by a random character is answered by one of the Seniors and the camera pans on the faces of 10 plus folks standing nearby listening with rapt attention on the class that is being ‘ peekafied’ by this elderly lady. 10 minutes later ” Ting” everybody’s eyes are opened and all are mighty enlightened. And this goes on and on at the drop of each hat.

The director wasted too much time on the above while he could have narrated more meaning out of the multiple Mantras and motions one goes through during a marriage. An enormous patience is needed to go through this one and probably a watch for those tying the nuptial knot or has just tied one. A 2 on 5 from me.

Regret a longish review. What to do, I am on a long flight from Hyderabad to Delhi and had all the time to pen this down…
