Rajahmundry to feature longest runway in the state
If you are a regular traveler in and out of Rajahmundry airport, you will notice all the construction going on both inside and out. Major expansion of runway, cargo terminal, night landing facilities and new tarmac are all going on for last few months. It is expected to finish by end of 2018.
As per the news from Hindu, when completed the runway will be 10,500+ ft compared to current 5,800+ ft. It will be longer than Vizag and Vijayawada runways and will be able to handle bigger aircraft.
Also, the cargo terminal will be operational to import and export goods right from Rajahmundry airport.
Currently Rajahmundry has 3 airlines operating IndiGo, SpiceJet and TruJet with flights to Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
After Jet Airways discontinued its service to Rajahmundry, there has been limited international flight connectivity, hopefully after the construction is complete, Rajahmundry will see more services especially to Delhi and Mumbai.
